Welcome to Masthead. By using masthead.ink you agree to these terms. We aim to keep them plain.
Masthead is a marketplace for commissioned journalism. Buyers (editors, publications, and companies) post assignments. Writers pitch to them. Deals settle between the two parties. During this early period Masthead is run as a hands-on concierge service while we prove the model.
Every deal facilitated through Masthead is a license, never a work-for-hire assignment. The writer keeps the copyright to their work. The writer receives 100 percent of the settled price; the platform fee is charged on the buyer side. This is the core of how Masthead works and it does not change quietly.
Do not misuse the site: no unlawful use, no attempts to break or overload it, no impersonation, no submitting content you do not have the right to submit. We may decline or remove briefs, pitches, or accounts that abuse the service or other users.
When a deal transacts, payments are processed by Stripe under its terms. The buyer pays the settled price plus the platform fee. Writers are paid their full settled price. Specific settlement, invoicing, and payout details are confirmed with each party at the time of a deal.
Masthead helps buyers and writers find each other; it does not guarantee that a brief will receive pitches you want, that a pitch will be selected, or any particular outcome. The site is provided as is, without warranties, to the extent the law allows.
We may update these terms as the service grows. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date.
